DISPOSAL GARBAGE SERVICES

Mixed Waste DisposalThe Metro Vancouver Regions goal includes reducing the waste we each generate by 10% of the 2010 volumes landfilled, and recycling up to 70% of all waste generated by 2015, and aiming for 80% diversion; of all waste generated by 2020.

At Mini Bins we offer responsible and reliable containerized services for all general disposal needs however there are many products that are banned or prohibited from regular disposal. Following is a list of all banned or prohibited items:


Banned Recyclable Materials

These materials are banned from disposal in this region to drive up the regional recycling rate.

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Recyclable paper
  • Green waste
  • Containers made of glass
  • Beverage containers (all except milk cartons)
  • Food waste – NEW 2015
  • Clean wood – NEW 2015

Banned Hazardous and Operational Impact Materials

These materials are hazardous to the environment or workers, or have high operational impacts. There are safe alternative disposal options.

  • Agricultural waste
  • Asbestos
  • Automobile bodies and parts
  • Barrels or drums in excess of 205 liters whether full or empty
  • Biomedical waste
  • Coated or uncoated wire and cable exceeding 1% of the total Load
  • Dead animal
  • Excrement, other than amounts of pet excrement that are double bagged and discarded with Municipal Solid Waste and that do not exceed either 5% of the total weight of the Load or 5% of the total volume of the Load
  • Gypsum
  • Hazardous waste as defined in the Hazardous Waste Regulation, B.C. Reg. 63/88
  • Liquids and sludge
  • Matresses
  • Propane tank
  • Refuse that is on fire, smouldering, flammable or explosive
  • Refuse that would cause undue risk of injury or occupational disease to any person at the Disposal Site or that would otherwise contravene the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations

Any single object that:

  • weighs more than 100 kilograms; or
  • exceeds 0.35 square metres in cross section at any point; or
  • exceeds 1.2 metres in width and/or 2.5 metres in length, except at the Waste-to-Energy Facility where a single object must not exceed 1.0 metre in length; or
  • exceeds 3 cubic metres in volume
  • Inert fill material including soil, sod, gravel, concrete and asphalt exceeding 0.5 cubic metres per load
  • Any other Refuse that the Manager considers unsuitable for handling at the Disposal Site
